“Inspired by both wilderness and garden, I draw directly from nature, studying the tension of matter and spirit that give the subject a poetic presence.  I paint from the memory of that encounter, trying to recreate the disturbing beauty that left its mark on my psyche.

My work in sculpture has evolved from figurative work in clay and stone, abstract work in wood and steel, to my current studies of plant and animal motifs in wood Bas Relief."

Gary Hutchison received his M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University and has shown his work in St. Louis, Missouri, Corpus Christi, Texas and Denver, Colorado.
